Desdemona (comp. Marc Bolan)
Desdemona just because
You're the daughter of a man
He may be rich he's in a ditch
He does not understand
Just how to move or rock and roll
To the conventions of the young
Desdemona, Desdemona,
Lift up your skirt and fly.
Just because my friend and I
Got a juke joint by the Seine
Does not mean I'm past fourteen
And cannot play the game
I'm glad I split and got a pad
On Boulevard Rue Fontaine
Desdemona, Desdemona,
Lift Up your skirt and fly.
Just because Toulouse Lautrec
Painted some chick in the rude
Doesn't give you the right
To steal my night
And leave me naked in the nude
Well just because the touch of your hand
Can turn me on just like a sneak
Desdemona, Desdemona,
Lift up your skirt and speak
My River (comp. O'List)
So sorry - as well as the river, the lyrics have also rolled on so transient like many people he have known.
Well - if anyone have see either his lyrics OR his river, please don't be call us , OK?
Start Here
I'd like you to say (repeat after me) 'Confident am I' - my ability will set you free
So pin back your ears, allay your fears, please think of nothing
but the kind of man you'd like to be
Listen to what I'm saying, why can't you stop your praying, start here, start here, start here
Listen to what I'm saying, why can't you stop your praying, start here, start here, start here
Strange the ways of the world, the boys and the girls, just like you and me
You've been waiting your turn, now you too can learn
You tell me you feel low, and I say so do as I tell you
At no great expense - it's confidence!
Listen to what I'm saying, why can't you stop your praying, start here, start here, start here
Listen to what I'm saying, why can't you stop your praying, start here, start here, start here
Well, the cure is complete, go out and compete against the other males;
so be sure that you know and then you can't fail
Cover Girl
You've seen the cover girl, she's looking kinda cutie -
initial reaction is oh, what a beauty in her way
She looks so brave
I've seen the cover girl for sale at the news stalls -
I'm appalled at what I see, they're no good for you or you or me
No no no good I find the cover girl so different from the other girls
Cover girl, you can take me anytime I'll do anything for that vacant smile,
and it's done, and it's done and it's oh no, no, no
I have admired you now for quite sometime alone in the privacy of my own home (my residence)
Alone. My Home. I am going to write a letter to you, to make me feel better
Cover girl, you can take me anytime I'll do anything for that vacant smile,
and it's done, and it's done and it's oh no, no, no
I really would throw my wife away - it seems that you are my lifelong dream;
although you find it hard to see, that's real superiority
Though all those other men, they covet you and view your charms,
I am sure that it's me that you want in your arms tonight I'm right for you
But now it's gone on for far too long My conscience tells me that it's really quite wrong to act this way
Too bad So sad I find the cover girl so different from the other girls
Cover girl, you can take me anytime
I'll do anything for that vacant smile
You're really getting to this heart of mine
We're gonna be together now for quite a while
I think your greatest asset is your vacant smile
You look as sweet as sugar, almost Tate & Lyle
Pay homage at your front door, to you all heil
I'm sure that all my friends would like you, everyone
A mistress of disguise, but you're deceiving none
BOOP BOOP!
Around The World In Eighty Minutes
(comp. O'List / Gordon)
I have such trouble in climbing mountains, I don't enjoy it when I swim in the sea, I've seen the palaces and I've seen the fountains, I'm not impressed with all the scenery. I met the Smiths in Gibraltar, the Trudge in New York, the milkman in Malta, now who would have thought, Tom Spode in New Jersey, the Roik by the Seine. I see them in Rome but never at home (I'm always alone). I met Mike Fargo at the Coliseum, I brought my postcards from the Mont St Michel, I do remember leaning on the Tower of Pisa, on Queen Elizabeth I felt so unwell. I met the Trace in New Zealand, the Thurbers in Spain, my boss in Majorca (I won't go again), the dentist Auckland, the doctor in Maine - I see them in France but never at home (I'm always alone). So many times I visited Jamaica, the answer to your question is she wanted to go, I've had my fill of seeing sights and places. I think in future I shall stay at home. I met the Scotts on Lake Eyrie, the Fords by the Nile, my gran at Niagara, recovered in style thanks to the Franks who had been there a while. I see them in Spain but never at home (I won't go again). It raining, it's pouring, he went to bed and bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning, it's teeming, it's pouring the old man is boring, he's almost dead or so he said, we all go into mourning.
Horrible Breath (comp. Marc Bolan)
I like your money and I like your car
And if he thinks like you, I even like it your papa
I say your skinny little legs don't bother me so
But you scare me to death with your horrible breath
You're gonna scare me to death with your horrible breath
You're gonna scare me to death with your horrible breath
I say, I like your money and I like your show
And your big fat legs gonna make me say no
I said, the other things you got gonna make love grow
And you scare me to death with your horrible breath
You're gonna scare me to death with your horrible breath
Lady Ricochet (comp. O'List / Ellison)
Once upon a time in a band, better jumping next to stagefright. Feel the people in my hand, a guitar in the wings is waiting stage right. Standing in the footlights, I saw you - out on your own, tears in your eyes. Lady Ricochet is grooving in and out the spotlight. Lazy Saturday, we're freaking up and down in dry ice. Standing in the footlights... Once upon a time in a band, in and out the city jukejoints. Stun the people with my hand, I'm racing through the border checkpoints. Standing in the checkpoint, I saw you - out on your own, tears in your eyes. Cry baby cry. Run baby run. Fly baby fly. Run baby run. Oh! Ooh! Urrgh! Arrgghh! Gak!! Fan my thighs with a wet kipper!!!! and so on.
We Love Noise aka Going Deaf (comp. Ellison / Gordon)
We love noise. Drown in sound. They say that we are fools, and we should stick to sound and trusted rules, and not stay too accessible to fourteen thousand decibels. A physician in a high position warned me of the palpitation risk. But the burble that's in question is going to take a standing aversion. I thought I heard a sound that turned me round and round. What was that you said? I think I'm going deaf. We love noise, though it annoys. Drown in sound, all the girls and boys. I'm a jumpjet acrobatic, an electric bunny rabbit too! And the feedback that I drown in is gonna be my silent ruin. They say the frequency at which we play is going to drive the audience away - so stick the needle in the red, pretty soon we're gonna be dead! I thought I heard a sound We love noise... I think I'm going deaf.
Tax Loss (comp. Ellison / Gordon)
I thought I was creative and an intellectual dude but the shopping list was always wrong, the condiments came from Hong-Kong, the magic that I had seemed gone for good. I vanished in sensation and overnight what's more. I though my style was quite unique but all and sundry were antique. The simple things in life I did abhor. I don't want to make too much fuss, I've got talent (see me ooze) - I don't want to be a tax loss, I just want to sing the blues. I knew I had charisma and subtlety for sure, I knew the score, I had no trainer but had to sing for my retainer, the price you pay for being too obscure. Got to get commercial, sing a simple sort of line, a complicated kind of feel is bound to win me no appeal, and they'll just tell me 'Yes, you're doing fine!". I don't want to make too much fuss. Get up. Get Down. Get Off. Oh Yeah.
Our Boys (comp. Oxendale / Gordon)
Now I'm ashore, I'm sad to say I'm in a very tricky situation: ladies galore but strangely none of them want to relieve my frustration... I'm told every girl, they all love a sailor. It sure doesn't seem so. Life on the wave is ample time to study laws of time and emotion. Got to behave but when we're off is when you find the clamour and commotion. We're told every girl, you all love a sailor. It sure doesn't seem so. It's greetings from Aden, it's greeting from Ghan, it's greeting from all those at BFP 49, it's greeting from Malta, we're glad to be here, so let out your daughters (it's one two three). Ooh!. Now that we're down, I say, old bean, let's go to town and see the fillies canter. What's that, old boy? I must admit I find it hard to understand your banter. I'm told every girl, they all love a pilot. (It certainly seems not). It's greetings from Aden… Now that we're back there'll be no more parades, no blowing on damn silly trumpets. What we must do is find the local talent and check out the local crumpet. I'm told every girl, they all love a soldier - it's not what they told yer. It's greetings from Aden…
Hand On My Heart (comp. Oxendale / Gordon)
You think there's something wrong with your life, you're undergoing marital strife, there's no need to suffer if you can't get enough out of life. You permanently feel ill at ease, relax because we know your disease. No need for neurosis, we know what your dose is so please... The kind of prescription will be a subscription to this well-known brand of advertising magazine. We do recommend it, we'll offer to send it to your home (which we love!), our well-known brand of magazine. We'll make a suggestion - relieve the congestion in your brain, you're in such pain. Well, we really hope you buy it cos we think you ought to try it. We guess your main concern is your height (the size of you tells us it might be). You really can't lose with your new built up shoes, left and right. Your waist is where your troubles begin. We do a shirt that might hold you in. As least you should try it, there's a chance that it might make you thin. The kind of prescription I think you caught your sleeve in my door. You're standing on my hat on the floor. I see from your manner your patience is holding no more. Perhaps one day you'll see us again, and if you do your fortunes will mend, but then if you don't, and I feel that you won't, there it ends.
Johnny Mekon
There was a day when life was easier, there was a time when people wanted to know. But now that's gone for ever, my life is recorded in stereo. Day by day I was so sensational you could see me every day in the national press but now that's gone for ever, you never hear me on the radio. Tell me that you I want you, want you Carry your satchel? I got you, got you. I'm Johnny Mekon. I'm Johnny Mekon. I'm Johnny Mekon. Come on, you know me! There came a day when success began to stop, I changed my style even so my records still missed, time for reappraisal, I had to think or else I had to go. I lost my fortune at the rate I lost my friends - all together I had trouble in making ends meet. And I was all forgotten, the family shows didn't want me no more. Tell me that you And now the moral and the way I'm seeing it, a mumble mumble is a very much easier task for me and I'm glad it's over cos in the end you make what you know. There was a day when life was easier, there was a time when people wanted to know, but now it's gone forever, my life's recorded in stereo. Tell me that you...
Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend
The postman comes with another letter - I see the trap's not quite so tender
Now why did I say what I said on that day for you to send me these peculiar things?
Go away
How do I escape from this problem? (I think it could be quite a tough one)
You ought to have known that my words were not my own and now I am paying for my sin
Diamonds are strange - it seems they can teach man to curb his dreams They overcome your troubles in the end
You don't need intelligence, you don't need very much sense - diamonds are a girl's best friend
I said that I'd give you a ring sometime, you thought the wrong thing, got a crossed line
The tears in my eyes prevent me telling lies - I've got to have that ring back and in time (it's not mine)
At that party there was music - plenty of wine (I felt quite boozic)
And the means to my end, was the ring of my friend - he told me to be careful not to lose it
Diamonds are strange - it seems they can teach man to curb his dreams They overcome your troubles in the end
You don't need intelligence, you don't need very much sense - diamonds are a girl's best friend
The tears in my eyes prevent me telling lies - I've got to have that ring back and in time I hope you understand my anguish, because my friend you see is Irish I need it for the marriage (I'll pay postage and carriage), I've got to have that ring back and in time
Diamonds are strange - it seems they can teach man to curb his dreams They overcome your troubles in the end
You don't need intelligence, you don't need very much sense - diamonds are a girl's best friend
Song For Hymn
I'd like to sing just a few lines for you
(that's if you've got nothing better to do)
As you can hear, it won't take very long
Now we have come to the end of our song
Nothing To Do With Us
Now I know it looks quite plain, though I cannot refrain from giving you the benefit
So - suppose we let it ride, it comes as no surprise to find that you're no suffragette
They're nothing to do with us my dear, no, nothing to do with us
If they say hello, it's only for show, they're nothing to do with us
You know, I was working late, you worried and lost weight (I didn't realise the time)
Then, just as l left l saw some people at the door - I thought that they were friends of mine
They're nothing to do with us my dear, no, nothing to do with us
If they say hello, it's only for show, they're nothing to do with us
So, all at once, we vanished for a drink (I think)
All know is it went on for quite a while
It did seem to be some manner of a one night stand,
(and I know that we raised more than a smile)
They're nothing to do with us It's only for show, it's only for show
They're nothing to do with us my dear, no, nothing to do with us
If they say hello, it's only for show, they're nothing to do with us
Lazy Sunday (comp. Marriott/Lane)
Wouldn't it be nice
To get on with me neighbours
But they make it very clear
They've got no room for ravers
They stop me from groovin',
They bang on me wall
They doing me crust in
It's no good at all
Lazy Sunday afternoon
I got no mind to worry
I close my eyes and drift away
Here we all are sittin' in a rainbow
Gor blimey hello Mrs Jones
How's old Bert's lumbago (mustn't grumble)
I'll sing you a song,
With no words and no tune
To sing in your khazi
While you suss out the moon
Lazy Sunday afternoon,
I got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift away
Root-de-doo-de-doo
Root-de-doot-de die day
Root-de doot de dum
Root-de-doo-de-doo dee
There's no one to hear me,
There's nothing to say
And no one can stop me
From feelin' this way
Lazy Sunday afternoon
I've got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift away
Uncle Evil
Each day at ten to eleven, in his own seven heaven, he will step right outside, on his bike off he rides, let us follow him to study our subject (don't doubt it) for this is another song about it. He seems to ignore the reaction of the militant faction of the local PTA (and the RSPCC) for he knows they don't care for his subject (don't doubt it) for this is another song about it. Uncle Evil - he'll meet you from school, a sweetie in his hand and cunning his tool. Uncle Evil - a ride on his bike could show you something you might learn to like. Uncle Evil. It's maybe because his mother was frightened by another just before he arrived, now she's no longer alive, now she's no longer alive. It's the same old dubious subject, (don't doubt it) so here is another song about it! Uncle Evil - a bag full of goodies and sweeties and comics for walks in the woodies. Uncle Evil - a walk in the park, you'll come to no harm, it's not even dark. Uncle Evil. He seems to evade apprehension, they don't understand how he always gets away, lives to grope another day, but he knows they don't care for his subject (don't doubt it) so here is another song about it! Uncle Evil - a bag full of goodies and sweeties and comics for walks in the woodies. Uncle Evil - a walk in the park, you'll come to no harm, it's not even dark. Uncle Evil - the playgrounds he haunts, shocking the shoppers who stares as he flaunts. Uncle Evil - maybe it's because he's a lingerer.'
Don't Cry Joe
'Don't cry, Joe. Don't cry, Joe. You'll find what you find out, in the end you'll find a friend, don't cry, Joe. Don't cry, Joe. The days go slow. Sad that our journey has to end just around the bend. Don't cry, Joe. Have you seen Charlotte? Has anyone? Has you seen Charlotte? It's just begun. Have you seen Charlotte? Has anyone? Cos the show must go on. Don't cry, Joe. The sadness goes. You've got a lifetime, in the end your heart will mend, we know the story, you receive the love you send, you've got your problems but I can't make the date. Don't cry, Joe.'
Antler
Prepared piano, detuned guitar, you have no idea how avant-garde we are. Multi tympani, tubular bell, you have no idea how this creation will sell. It's just as well. It's just as well. You don't understand it - that's not so necessary. And we only play it cos it's simpler than do re mi, take it from me, take it from us. You think the sound of music is the sound of music to our ears. We find the sound of music no consolation for our years. (He's speaking for himself, of course). So more piano, encore guitar, you have no idea how avant-garde we are.
